Ring of Ages edition by Patrick Keithahn Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

I read the entire book. I loved it! Without giving anything away, it took me a while to see the big picture, however, it is a very clever, beautiful, disturbing book....I call it a success.. Keep up the great work!
A really intriguing mix of fantasy, paranormal and historical fiction that results in a compelling tale.
I'm not one for including spoilers, but it's difficult to review this particular book without doing so.
Two interwoven stories, two couples separated by hundreds of years, one in a Medieval English setting, the other in modern day Boston, linked by a gold ring. Both eras handled beautifully, the characters and settings well described.
A well written, thoroughly enjoyable read. Hoping for more books from this author, soon!
Highly recommended.

(An .au purchase)
With a lovely intermingling of the stories of two couples separated by time, Ring of Ages is part romance, part revenge story, and part fantasy mystery. We follow our four protagonists through what will ultimately be the most difficult time in each of their lives, and we witness how love will steer their individual courses as they struggle against what fate throws at them.

It was a highly enjoyable read. I found the dialogue to be particularly good, and the main characters so well established that I was endeared to them almost at once. Their victories made me smile, their defeats shattered me, and the final resolution was both moving and thought-provoking.

Though the floating style of perspective--in which the point of view switches between characters within a single scene--may not be to everyone's taste (it certainly wasn't mine), the style is established early enough and maintained consistently enough that it's never a serious problem, and in many places the narrative actually benefits from it.

It may be slightly rough around the edges, but despite it's few flaws this is story worthy of your time. You'll be glad to have read it. I certainly am.
A preternatural tale of a hand-wrought golden ring and two pairs of lovers divided by a millenium of time.

This is no fairy tale for the faint of heart. In the hands of Patrick Keithahn the story of an assassin and his beloved in medieval England entwines with that of a couple married to their work and to one another in the bustling urban center of Boston, like single strands of silk become fine threads in a field of tapestry.

Burke is compelled to accept his most dangerous, and lucrative commission--to join a roving band of thieves and murderers--or lose everything he holds dear to his blackened heart.

Mason thinks his wife is losing her mind. She is suffering interludes of manic and irrational behavior and frightening seizures.

The dual worlds within Ring of Ages will please the most discriminating fan of thrilling historical fiction, while readers of speculative fiction will likewise add this debut to their most-loved books shelf.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
I was drawn to this book by the idea of the various tales that could be woven around a ring that is possibly a thousand years old. Just imagine the different lives that such a ring would have come into contact with? Unfortunately I don’t think that Patrick Keithahn really capitalised on that promise.

Effectively we have here two novellas set in very different times, laid out in alternating chapters. We have the simplistic but violent medieval tale contrasting with a modern psychological thriller. To be fair, both stories are gritty, easy to read and they kept my interest but neither could be described as rippers. They are rather gloomy with just a few moments of humour.

The cynic in me has to wonder whether the author tried to write two novels and finding that neither was adequate blended them together around the ring. Of the two, I feel that the modern story had potential to develop, particularly around the themes of depression and mental illness.

The ring features in both tales but other than that they do not have much to connect them. I also struggled to understand what, if any, powers the ring possessed. There is no doubt that terrible things happened to the people close to the ring but was that co-incidence or did the ring orchestrate those events?

Clearly my expectations were too high. If you read Ring of Ages my advice would be to take the stories at face value and cherish any connections that you find. I have awarded it three stars.

Well written, easy read. Plot confusing at first, then spellbinding. Appreciated the lack of x-rated writing. Not an easy feat for a good story these days. Well done, Patrick. Looking forward to your next book!
This was a page-turner and an enjoyable read. The characters and setting felt true-to-life and relatable, which you don't always find in a book that has fantasy elements. The ending caught me by surprise. I'm looking forward to the next book from this author.
