Oscar's Letters is a fast, fun read and an interesting imaginative story. Mike Greene is an excellent writer. I really enjoyed reading it. I'm anxiously awaiting the sequel!
I must start with a confession! The author is my younger brother. I was pleased but skeptical when I heard he was writing novels. Then I read Oscar's Letters and found it to be a wonderful read. He writes a fast moving, interesting tale. His character development is complex and believable. The ending virtually "knocked my socks off!" Give it a read; you won't be disappointed.
Mike Greene has once again kept me awake reading his newest novel. The story line is fresh and new and keeps the reader completely engaged. His characters are believable and easy to visualize. There is minimal but appropriate violent action and appropriate non-explicit sex. A surprise ending demands a sequel!!
I read this book for a book club. The story is based on what might happen if letters from antiquity were discovered that suggested correspondence between Mary, the mother of Jesus to John, Jesus's disciple. Who would be affected by this finding and how would this finding would be played out.
It had an interesting enough plot and the characters developed nicely enough, but the author needed to do a bit more research into understanding how the United States government agencies really work with an international problems or situations and also how the Catholic Church would respond to new "ground breaking" historical findings. Both these organizations have definite protocol in place, which would need to be followed.
I would recommend this book to Young Adult readers over today's modern Adult reader because adults today are much more educated and discriminating.
Oscar's Letters, was a non offensive book in word and content. Mr. Greene used his story telling ability to keep your interest not shocking wordage .
