Gwyneth O’Donohue has no use for Lycans but a string of dead bodies has brought one of the dogs right to her door. Can he be trusted or is he merely accomplished at deception? And why do the murders seem to lead right to the heart of the Universal Coven to which she belongs?

Meet Gwyneth O’Donohue – a powerful witch with an attitude, Matthias Bendov – a soft-hearted werebear, and Dante Esparza – a Lycan and soldier of fortune who has a score to settle.

Love clashes with an ancient curse in the latest installment of the Law of the Lycans.

Trying to use non-spoiler words, so Im going to keep it as generic as I can.

I adore that she uses characters who are mentioned from previous stories. It helps me instantly identify with them in a way I might not with brand new characters. I also particularly loved the huge, complicated family dynamics happening, as well as all the areas of the supernatural that were explored. Lycans, magic, curses, and murder--this novel has a bit of it all.

My favorite part is that the main characters aren't the young, naive innocents, discovering love, and all the joy and despair that it can bring, for the first time. A predictable recipe that turns me off from most romance stories. I also love that the heroine is tough, guarded, and isnt rescued by the love of a man, but chooses to rescue herself for the sake of pursuing it. Prince Charming is great, but this is a woman who said "Hell, No!" to waiting around for him to save her.

And Prince Charming would have gotten his butt handed to him by the hero. Living a hard life as a deceiver, blackmailer, and worse, for an agenda no one could guess, Dante has seen some of the darkest places this life can offer, and deliberately chose to continue seeking out those places.

Between the two of them, a traditional fairy tale might have *them* paired as the bad guys, at first. I loved that twist, too. So much.

Continuing from what I said before about how so many romances seem built around young/first love and all the starry-eyed, nausea-inducing sugariness they induce in me now, this was a welcome change. As I get older, those stories have lost my interest, because I am no longer in that stage of my life. I need something more mature. Love is needed at all ages, and I was rooting for this couple the whole time. Of course, the heroine still *looked* young, but that was tied to the story in a meaningful way, so I forgave it. I did call who the bad person was almost instantly, so I did find that a bit predictable, but I still gave this story 5 stars because I enjoyed it so much.

I could also see the setup for the couple in next book, which is great, because I was really feeling for him, too.

If you can't tell by now, yes, I recommend this book! :)

Deceit can be Deadly Law of the Lycans Book 8 edition by Nicky Charles Romance eBooks Reviews

I really liked this book a lot. However, once you hit 3/4 of the way done it just keeps dragging on. At that point the main focus of the story is over, but there are so many loose ends to tie up it takes a considerable amount of time to do that. So as much as I liked it, the ending felt like a long time to get to based on where the action actually ended. Perhaps it is set up for the next set of books, but it felt dragged out to some extent.
Another great addition to the series, there were many surprises about Dante and his connection to Damian although it did answer a few questions of Damian's hard life. Gwen had an interesting history and the connection to Dante was key to the romance of this story. I greatly enjoyed meeting Matthias a were bear, and a possibly candidate for a new story in the future. Although I am hoping it will be Daniel and Tessa's story since I've been waiting since book 3 for their romance. I also would like it to catch up with some familiar characters, in this book we saw some characters from other novels. I felt bad about Gwen when the villain's identity was revealed. I liked this story the most because of the magic that was used more freely and advanced as compared to being seen in the previous books.
I really like most of Nicky Charles's work but I was not crazy about this book. My first complaint is this is the Law of the Lycans series. It is supposed to be about werewolves not witches. The last 2 books were about witches with a bit of werewolf thrown in. I don't like witches and I am not interested in reading about them. Secondly, The female main character was Cold Hearted as written by the author. Because of this there was not any spark with the main antagonist or with any male characters. No sex appeal, no build up, nothing that led to the I love you's at the end of the story. I did not find it at all believable. She wrote Brandi and Reno's romance and Elsie and Kane's too. They were both sizzling. Furthermore, I did not find there to be any suspense. I knew who the killer was very early on and I assume most of the readers did too. The big reveal at the end was a big let down to say the least. Lastly, I did not really like how the older characters were handled. I did not feel as if they added much to the plot development and were basically an afterthought. I felt as if the main story should have been about Dante with Gwyneth playing the secondary role. I found his story much more compelling and would have liked to have delved deepen into that. Honestly, I just felt the story was a mess. Could have been so much better. Was not my favorite.
Deceit Can Be Deadly Book 8 Law of the Lycans Nicky Charles I really enjoyed this book. I've faithfully read all of the Law of the Lycans books. In this story Ms. Charles completes the stories of many characters. The only thing sometimes I wish is that an author would fill in briefly whats happened up to now. Not in depth but summary. Especially since its been Quite a time since the last book.
Anyway. We knew of Dante and that he'd worked with Damien when he went rogue. He was painted as a despicable person. Which in all fairness even he thinks could be mostly true. But we learn that he had a reason, sort of, as he was hunting the malefic witch that took his first loves' life and almost took his sons. He was also searching for the witch who cursed his family many many years ago and made their lives miserable. Well not only miserable but unhappy. Regardless of whether that was killing their partners, or whatever, to make sure they did not love anyone. It was kind of neat to have that 'curse' become an actual 'thing'. More so that just a vague 'curse'.
I really liked that the story wrapped up quite a few things that we otherwise would not have been able to put together. Because of this it was maybe a bit harder to make sure the puzzle pieces fit together properly. There were a few things I had to wrack my brain to remember. I bet the next book or two will be some new baby or couple )
Other than that the book was good.
